“Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?
In the lane, snow is glistening…”
Perhaps that seems premature—and the glistening snow is wishful thinking for certain. But if anticipation can be measured by the amount of time between when people start to ask about an event and the time that it actually takes place, we have a lot of people who are looking forward to the Christmas holidays this year. The Visitors Center phones are already ringing with questions about this year’s Fantasy of Lights, and we are definitely listening!
The Fantasy of Lights at Swan Lake Iris Gardens will open on December 1, 2012 and will remain open nightly until December 31. The drive-through holiday light display opens each evening at dusk and remains open until 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday nights, and 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. However, the opening night ceremony will start at 6 pm.
Beginning December 7, “Santa’s Village” at the Heath Pavilion (located on Garden Street, GPS location: N 33.91579º W 080.36715º) will feature live entertainment, Santa taking his orders in person, and delicious refreshments served by the Evening Pilot Club on Friday and Saturday nights through December 22, from 5 to 9 p.m.
There’s still a lot to do in order to get ready for Sumter’s biggest (and one of the state’s biggest) light shows. Park staff members have been stringing lights since the week after Labor Day, and there’s still a great deal left to do. However, they have never once failed to have everything ready for our public officials to flip the switch right on time, as Swan Lake blazes into life for the season. And as always, there is no charge to attend!
We’ll be writing more about this as the time draws closer, but for more info on this beloved annual event, please call the Swan Lake Visitors Center at (803) 436-2640 or toll-free at 1-800-688-4748. And just so you are certain not to miss a thing, why not check us out on Facebook, or subscribe to our weekly events e-newsletter at firstname.lastname@example.org?
And in just a few more weeks, we’ll be walking (or driving) through a Carolina wonderland!
