Just in case you haven’t done it already, it’s time to register for the second annual Tri-Sumter Triathlon. Last year’s inaugural event drew more than 90 enthusiastic participants from across South Carolina, and the City of Sumter is looking to do it again—only better!
Presented by Anytime Fitness, with additional sponsorship by the USAF 337th Recruiting Squadron, Chick-Fil-A, Colonial Family Practice, Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home, and Tuomey Healthcare System, the TriSumter Triathlon presents a challenge for either the novice or experienced triathlete. This year’s event takes place on October 20, 2012, beginning at 8:30 a.m. with a staggered start at the City of Sumter Aquatics Center. The USAT-sanctioned race includes a 300-yard (275 meters) swim in the Aquatics Center’s outdoor heated pool, a 16-mile (25.75K) bike course and a 5K run. The event will also end at the Aquatics Center.
Early registration (through October 4) is $45 per individual, or $75 per team. The City is pleased to offer a substantial military discount—registration is $20 per individual, or $30 per team (again, this price is good through October 4). Registrations are being accepted now, and can be completed up to the day of the event. Pricing after early registration is as follows:
October 5-19: $60 per individual; $90 per team
Race Day: $90 per individual; $120 per team
There is an additional $10 fee for non-USAT members. Registered participants may pick up their packets on Friday, October 19, at the City of Sumter Aquatics Center between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m., or on the morning of the race. Race organizers request that you please leave your pets and strollers at home.
For more information, please call (803) 436-2640 or toll-free 1-800-688-4748, or visit online at www.trisumtertri.edgereg.com. A printable registration form is also available here. Completed forms can be mailed to the City of Sumter Aquatics Center, 1115 S. Lafayette Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
As of this writing, you have a little more than six weeks to get ready. And just in case you’re a bit rusty, the Aquatics Center is offering Stroke and Endurance Training from September 4 through October 19 on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. When it comes to fitness and endurance, here’s your chance to find out what you’re really made of!
