It’s hard, isn’t it, to get a lot of work done the day before a holiday break? On the one hand, there is always a big “to do” list that needs to get finished so the thought of it won’t spoil the coming days. But moods are festive, and it’s hard not to think about the Thanksgiving feast, followed by weeks of activities leading up to Christmas.
This has been a busy week for the Visitors Center staff, with many individuals, couples and families coming in to visit family and friends. We have also had a number of local families and friends calling or stopping by to find out what is going on for the beginning of the holiday season. The biggest question on everyone’s mind seems to be, “When will they turn on the Christmas lights?” The park staff has been hard at work since Labor Day weekend, making sure that everything will be just right for one of South Carolina’s largest free holiday light displays, the Fantasy of Lights at Swan Lake.
The 24th annual Fantasy of Lights Opening Ceremony will be held on Thursday evening, December 1, 2011, beginning promptly at 6 p.m. A program packed with entertainment and displaying the finest of our local talent, it will culminate with the turning on of the lights at approximately 6:45 p.m. Although the lights are a special sight throughout the month, there is nothing like that first moment when the park lights up and there is a collective “Ahhh” from all the participants and spectators. It’s a moment not to miss!
For more information on the Fantasy of Lights, please call the Swan Lake Visitors Center at (803) 436-2640 or toll-free at 1-800-688-4748.
Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday, and we’ll see you back at the Visitor’s Center on Monday, November 28!
