During the long, incredibly hot summer just past, the Sumter Opera House enjoyed a highly successful season with the Summer Kid’s Movies series. When it ended in August, there were many families who still wanted more.
Well, sometimes wishes do come true! I’m dating myself terribly here (again), but remember drive-in movies, when families packed everyone who would fit into the station wagon and drove to the Sky-Vue (Sumter’s only drive-in during the 1970’s) to enjoy a night of family fun? During the month of September, the City of Sumter Aquatics Center will go one better with “Splash-In Movies,” a whole new series of family films, beginning on September 2. Friday and Saturday nights will feature a new movie each night, with admission only $3 (ages 13 and over) and $2 (12 and under). And because yes, it’s still pretty warm out there, this includes admission to the pool, as well! The spray fountain and twister slide will be open for family enjoyment during the movie. Doors open at 8 p.m., with the movie beginning at 8:30. Refreshments will be for sale. For your safety, please remember, no coolers or pets. Regulation swim attire is required for pool entry. The scheduled movies are as follows (subject to change):
Fri. 2nd – Chicken Run
Sat. 3rd – Tinkerbell and the Great Fairy Rescue
Fri. 9th – 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Sat. 10th – Thomas and Friends
Fri. 16th – Air Bud
Sat. 17th – The Fox and the Hound
Fri. 23rd – Fly Away Home
Sat. 24th – Willy the Sparrow
For families who just want to kick back and enjoy one of the best public swimming facilities in the state, Sunday Family Nights will continue throughout the month from 6:15 to 8 p.m. Admission is $5.00 for families up to four, and $1.00 each for additional members.
The City of Sumter Aquatics Center is located at 1115 South Lafayette Drive, and more info can be had by phone at (803) 774-3998 or online at http://www.sumtersc.gov/visitingus/aquatic.aspx.
Come get cool in the pool, and enjoy some nighttime family fun!
