I don’t normally blog about things after the fact, and I didn’t intend to start now. But we are entering our busiest season of the year at the Swan Lake Visitors Center, so I do need to back up just a tiny bit.
The other day I had an ear worm. You know what an ear worm is? It’s that song…the one that keeps running through your head, and you cannot get rid of it no matter what! It was a very busy day, and I kept a nice rhythm going with “I wanna put on, my my my my boogie shoes…”
See, April 14 was the inaugural concert of the Sumter@Six Summer Concert Series, the one that’s been rocking downtown Sumter since 2001. Someone called the office from Cary, NC to get directions, and my ear worm was off and running!
The second Thursday of every month from now until October is going to feature a great variety of beach and variety music, rocking downtown Sumter at the Brody Pavilion (Harvin Street Parking Lot) from 6 p.m. until 8:30(ish). The rest of this schedule’s season:
- May 12 Nantucket
- June 9 Atlantic Groove
- July 14 The Embers
- August 11 Billy Scott & the Party Prophets
- September 8 Chief Complaint
- October 13 Band of Oz
Admission is free! Food and beverages will be for sale, with a different featured vendor every month at this family-oriented event.
For those with a taste for a smaller crowd and a smooth, adult rhythm, downtown Sumter is pleased to welcome back Fridays at the Plaza, held the third Friday of each month until September at Rotary Centennial Plaza (corner of Main and Liberty). From 7 to 10 p.m., enjoy a casual evening of music and fun. Angel’s Mexican will offer food for sale, and a selection of soft drinks, beer and wine will also be available for purchase, and with such a variety of music, there will be something to please every taste. Again, admission to the event is free. This year’s schedule:
- May 20 Garcia & Scott
- June 17 Latitude
- July 15 Virtually Unshockable
- August 19 TBA
- September 16 Old School
So…get thee to downtown Sumter, and get to rocking out!
