“Like” Sumter!

When the City of Sumter joined the brave new world of social media in 2009 with our introductory Facebook page, we had no idea of the overwhelming response it would receive!  As of this morning, we have 5,003 “friends” on www.facebook.com/sumtersouthcarolina.  That’s a lot to keep track of, and a lot of posts that you might be missing.

As it was originally designed, Facebook was meant to serve as a connecting place for friends.  For those of you who have been around the site for awhile, there were no ads in the old days (or very few), and not many businesses or other organizations participated.  It was where you found your old schoolmates, re-connected with friends who had moved away, or played around with a variety of fun, sometimes silly, and sometimes informative apps (before the hackers tried to spoil that for everyone).

However, FB has continued to grow with the times and now offers a wide variety of platforms for communities, businesses, entertainment and so many other things that I can’t keep track!  For this reason, the City has launched a new page.  It is now possible for you to “like” Sumter, SC through our fan page at www.facebook.com/SumterSC.  Through this new and improved portal, you can keep up to date on all of the latest community happenings, find out what new events are taking place, have a direct line to our Twitter page and our blog, and generally get a bigger, better picture of the community.

So, get online today and “like” Sumter.  We promise you’ll “like” the difference, too!
