The Holiday’s have arrived!

I know we live in the beautiful state of South Carolina where our climate is considered to be one of the most sought after, but I was almost afraid we would begin the Annual Poinsettia Festival with seventy degree weather.

I’m thrilled to say we will enjoy our traditional event for December 1, with winter like weather. The cool breeze is just in time for the turning on of the lights! The Fantasy of Lights is one of the largest FREE lighted displays in South Carolina and at 6 p.m. in Sumter, South Carolina the Swan Lake Iris Gardens will come alive and illuminate in a multitude of magnificent color.

The Sumter community will gather to hear Oakland Primary Chorus, High Hills Elementary Chorus and Crestwood High School Chorus along with other special remarks from the Pilot Club of Sumter and the Council of Garden Club president’s. You’ll receive greetings from Joseph T. McElveen, Jr., Mayor, City of Sumter, Col. Charles L. Moore, Commander, 20th Fighter Wing of Shaw AFB and special guest Congressman-elect J. Michael “Mick” Mulvaney.

The Opening Ceremony is celebrating the 23rd annual Fantasy of Lights and the 31st Anniversary of the Floating Christmas Tree! Join friends and family as the tradition continues with the flipping of the switch to the Fantasy of Lights in the world famous 150 acre Swan Lake-Iris Gardens as they illuminate with more than a million lights and 100 lighted figures!

The Fantasy of Lights is only the beginning to more than twenty events listed in the Annual Poinsettia Festival 2010.  For a complete listing log on to or call the Swan Lake Visitors Center at 800-688-4748.
